 LaundryPure Pre-Installation &

Troubleshooting Guideline

A Common Problem and How To Fix It!

by Darwin Cuddeback

A good story for general education even if you don't have this problem.

1. Darwin had a perfect LaundryPure in his home.

2. He set up his own unit for a customer, Don, to try. He expected the best.

3. Don said the unit didn't work. He claimed to have stinky clothes and asked Darwin to take it out. Wife worked at a bakery; smell would not come out. Darwin thought the customer was just being tough since the unit worked fine for him.

4. Darwin's brother had a bad unit, it was leaking. Darwin took the same unit the customer had tried and installed it at the brother's house. Brother also said the LP was not cleaning the clothes like he had seen at Darwin's house.

5. Darwin wondered if this unit had magically gone bad during the move. So he reinstalled it at his home. It worked perfectly.

6. Aha! Something is wrong with my brother's machine or his water.

7. Darwin took the good unit back to his brother's house and tried again. It did not work. No bubbles in the water. Didn't look right (water was barely running in washing machine).

8. So he removed the hose and collected a water sample directly from the LP unit. That water looked perfect. Conclusion: something was going bad between the unit and the washer.

9. The possibilities were: the hose; the screen at the input to the washing machine; or the internal plumbing of the washer.

10. To bypass 2 of these possibilities, he put the hose from LP into the hot side of the washing machine. Then he set the controls to HOT/WARM and the unit worked perfectly. Cold water was entering the washing machine from the hot side.

11. He found mineral scale in the input screen at the washing machine. This fix has worked in other situations, too. It is common in areas with hard water.

? Check the Water Pressure

1. If your water splashes with force when turning on the faucet, you are a good candidate to check your pressure. (Note: if you have hard water consider that even if the splash test shows your pressure is okay, it may not be due to scale build up in your pipes.)

2. If you find (by using a pressure gauge) that your water pressure is too high (exceeds 75 PSI), we recommend installing a whole house pressure regulator to protect all appliances from leaking. The other benefit is you will not use as much water thus reducing your water bill.

3. In effort to insure the pressure will not exceed 75 PSI at the washing machine, add a pressure reducer and hammer arrester (50-60 PSI is okay). You'll find these parts at Home Depot or Walmart.

? Identify Potential Water Quality Issues

1. City or well water?

  • City water can have too much chlorine which reduces RCI capability.

  • Well water can have too much iron which reduces RCI capability.

  • A sign of poor water quality is if it smells, tastes bad, has calcium build up or is discolored.

  • Above average contamination can reduce the effectiveness of the RCI on your clothes.

 2. Water quality?

  • Do you smell hydrogen sulfide (rotten egg smell)? (If so, you will need a KDF filter. See filter list below.)

  • Do you smell chlorine? (If so, you will need a KDF filter. Note see filter list below.)

  • Do you have hard water? (calcium build up around faucets, etc.) Do you have a softener? If hardness is severe, recommend they add one. If not severe, you may reduce this problem by installing a De-Alkalizing filter. A KDF will help but is not a fix-all to hard water problems.

  • Did you replace your old hoses with new ones?  (Old hoses can accumulate sediment inside thus reducing water flow - see Darwin Cuddeback's advice.)

    http://floodchek.com/specs.htm = a good hose

  • Did you clean out the screen at the base of the washer? (This can be clogged with sediment or scale thus, restricting water flow - see Darwin Cuddeback's advice.)

  • Does your water lack clarity or is it discolored with an orange tint? (You may have too much metal, typically iron. You will need a KDF filter. See filter list below.)

? Troubleshooting (Note: Supplemental information to the LaundryPure Owners Manual. Any changes made to LaundryPure should be confirmed first by EcoQuest Technical.)

1. Water Testing

  • After completing I & II above you find you are still experiencing your whites are not as white, odors still exist and even mild stains are not coming out, we recommend you ask your customer to perform a water test.

  • Contact your local health department to have them test your water ($20 - $50) or use National Testing Labs which is recommended by EcoQuest technical. Email tech@ecoquestintl.net to request this information.

  • Ask your customer to reveal any water quality issues to you. Contact technical for the right filter or fix.

  • EcoQuest offers 8 water filters for LaundryPure (these are also available for the Living Water III).

    1) Arsenic/Flouride  #US550706

    2) DeAlkalizing  #US550707

    3) Sodium  #US550708

    4) Nitrate  #US550709

    5) Tanin  #US550706

    6) KDF 55 Kit # US40440

    7) Pre-filter  #US550705

    8) Carbon # (Ask Technical)

  • EcoQuest has a KDF 55 pre-filter. If you buy a KDF locally make sure you check how long it should be effective. The EcoQuest KDF lasts for several months.

2. No Bubbles

  • If you are not getting bubbles make sure you have changed the hoses to new ones and removed the sediment at the screen at the base of the washer.

  • Contact technical 800-989-2299 ext 8 for other questions or review the FAQ’s and Troubleshooting in the Owners Manual found on the company website. You can also email tech@ecoquestintl.net

  • If you find you have a water quality issue, think of the LaundryPure like our Living Water III purifier whereby an extra filter can be used for any of the 8 offered for LaundryPure. The challenge is figuring out exactly what the problem is. Usually people know their type of water by smell, taste, sight or mineral build up. If they are suspicious, recommend they get a water test by contacting their local health department (cost is $20-$50) or ask EQ about the water test they recommend.

  • Many LaundryPure users have good water and are very satisfied. But, what if your water quality is below average? If you brush your teeth, use the faucet for coffee or tea or showering, you are absorbing this water into your body. Therefore, it would be a good idea to test your water even if you are happy with your LaundryPure. Perhaps you need a SpringHouse.

Disclaimer: This guideline is written for education purposes. It is recommended you confirm any additional change to LaundryPure through the EcoQuest

technical department.
