EcoPower4 —a whole-house energy system that provides the best energy savings and protection. EP4 provides 4 key benefits:

Energy Savings

Equipment Protection

Electrical Noise Filtration

RoHS Environmental Safety Compliance

What is the EcoPower4 Warranty?

EP4 has a 10-year unconditional warranty. Even if EP4 performs as it should in the event of a direct lightning strike, and the unit sacrifices itself, EcoQuest will repair or replace it.

The patent pending design and quality of the components used in the EcoPower4 Whole House Energy Management System lets us offer this industry leading warranty. No other manufacturer comes close. Proudly manufactured in America!

Energy Savings

EP4 reduces the power drawn from the utility by storing otherwise lost electricity caused by the inductive motors in a home (air conditioners, refrigerators, freezers, washers, dryers, dishwashers, pool pumps, vacuum cleaners, furnace blower motors, fans, etc).

EP4 supplies the stored electricity back to inductive loads, thus causing decreased demand from the utility. The process is called power factor optimization.

Power Factor is the percentage of electricity delivered to a house and used effectively, compared to what is wasted. A 1.0 power factor means that all the electricity is being used effectively for its purpose. Most homes in America today have a .77 power factor or less. This means that 77% of the electricity that comes through the meter (home or business) is being used effectively. The other 23% is being wasted by your inductive load. With a low power factor, the utility has to deliver more electricity to do the same work.

EP4 increases that power factor in most cases to .97 or .98, thus increasing the effective use of the electricity and lowering usage.

Equipment Protection

EP4 provides Spike/Surge protection, guarding appliances and electronics (TV’s, stereos, computers, DVRs, security systems, wireless phones, and other equipment) against voltage spikes, power fluctuations, static electricity, and lightning.

The most common form of Spike/Surge suppression are MOVs (metal oxide varistors). MOVs are arranged in parallel with the circuit being protected. Typical residential and light commercial power sources allow literally hundreds of spikes and surges per day to reach valuable and sensitive electronic equipment. In the event of a massive surge or spike, the kind created by a direct lightning strike, the MOV sacrifices itself and stops the electricity from passing through.

EP4 has two external lights to indicate that the MOVs are functional.

Electrical Noise Filtration

Noisy appliances include TVs, compact fluorescent bulbs, fluorescent lamps, computers, stereos, and all appliances that now have electronic interface and control. Electrical noise interferes with the switching power supplies and causes premature failure. EP4 technology has not previously been offered to homes, small businesses, and schools. Let’s face it; the use of electronics within the American home has been growing at exponential rates and the need for filtering out the “noise loads” has never been greater.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does EcoPower4 work in any home?

Yes, as long as you have a circuit breaker panel with breaker switches and not the old screw in type fuses, the unit will work on any single-phase electric application for homes.

Do you use an air conditioner regularly?

Is your central air conditioner or heat pump unit 3 years or older?

Do you have more than one refrigerator or freezer?

Do you have a pool?

Do you have a well?

Hot tub or a Jacuzzi?

Is your washer/dryer not EnergyStar rated?

Is your refrigerator/freezer not EnergyStar rated?

Is your dishwasher not EnergyStar rated?

Do you have a number of appliances in your home?

Is your forced air furnace 3 years or older?

Will EP4 affect any of my appliances and their normal use?

If anything, your motors will run about 10% cooler, which is good for a motor because heat is the enemy of a motor.

Is EP4 tested and approved by independent labs?

See http://www.ecotrustenergy.com/qps-certification.aspx.

How much can I expect to save per month by using EP4?

That depends on the size of your home, the amount of inductive motor load, and the amount you are paying per kilowatt-hour. Some users have reported up to 25% in reduced consumption, but the expected savings is somewhere in the 7% to 15% range.

How long will it take for EcoPower4 to pay for itself?

Depends on your individual circumstances, number of appliances and age, electrical costs and usage patterns, but most units are paid for within thirty-six months.

Is EP4 easy to install?

We recommend installation by an electrician. The unit comes with installation instructions. It installs in about 20 - 30 minutes.

What is RoHS compliance?

RoHS is the acronym for Restriction of Hazardous Substances. RoHS, also known as Directive 2002/95/EC. Having originated in the European Union, it restricts the use of specific hazardous materials found in electrical and electronic products [lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium (CrVI), polybrominated biphenyls (PBB) and polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE)]. All applicable products in the EU market after July 1, 2006 must pass RoHS compliance; in the US it is an optional, environmental friendly standard. For the complete directive, see Directive 2002/95/EC of the European Parliament.

What is the operational life of my EP4 unit?

It has a predicted life of over 20 years.

Why haven’t I heard of these products until now?

Two words: cost effectiveness. Not too many years ago, electric rates throughout the US were cheap, costing as little as 4 cents per kwh. Now, electric rates are 8, 10, 12, 14, etc. New York City is 22 cents per kwh and Hawaii is 33.5 cents per kwh. At the current rates, EP4 makes all the sense in the world.

Summary

EcoPower4 is a unique application of proven technologies. It provides your home or business with the electrical power conditioning capabilities previously available only to the largest facilities and installations.

EP4 is easy to install and provides immediate benefits. It provides power factor correction, surge and spike suppression, and noise reduction in one cost-effective and maintenance-free package.

Homes and businesses contain many electronic devices that are sensitive to surges. Nearby lightning can create an energy surge that enters your property and destroys valuable equipment. On a smaller scale, circuit noise (from hair dryers, vacuum cleaners, microwave ovens, etc.) affects the performance of audio systems, computers, home entertainment systems, and the picture clarity of TVs.

EP4 protects the customer's property from all such power disruptions. At the same time, it saves energy on air conditioners, refrigerators, pumps, and fans. Pe3 improves equipment performance and prolongs equipment life.

EcoPower4 is:

  • Physically mounted on a wall near the panel of choice and connected to the panel via conduit and a dedicated circuit breaker.

  • A maintenance-free, solid-state device with no moving parts; not meant to be opened or serviced during its operating life.

  • Recognized by Underwriter's Laboratories (UL) in the Industrial Control Equipment category.

  • Environmentally friendly!

Installation: Installation Instructions (PDF)

  • Should be installed by a professional electrician to meet your local code.

  • Typical installation takes 30 minutes and costs $150. Installer should provide conduit. Customer will pay extra if a new breaker, outdoor waterproof box, or sub-panel is needed.

  • Here is some advice from Doug Hoffman, founder of NORMI, and a licensed builder...

Here are some thoughts to consider from the construction side of installation:

1.   Many states, Florida being one, have licensing laws and it would be illegal for ANYONE except the homeowner or licensed electrician to install EcoPower4.

2.  Most electricians DO NOT want the “curious” peaking over their shoulder…it’s annoying. Just let them do their job and they will get it done quickly. Many subcontractors will charge a minimum for such a small job and won’t necessarily want you to know how easy it is or how quickly he can do it.

3.  Building a relationship with an electrician is the answer! Find a licensed HVAC contractor that is also a  licensed electrician and you can have a friend who could install the EcoPower4 AND DuctwoRx. You can build a solid friendship that will be mutually beneficial.

4.   The builder who wrote these points says he would not allow a homeowner to install the EcoPower4. TOO MUCH RISK—crossing wires, high voltage, burning up the unit, etc. His suggestion: ALWAYS  get a professional.

Testimonial from another user of

Power Factor Technology

Last month I installed the Power Saving device from EcoQuest. Here is the result of the first month, well actually not all the month, but about two-thirds of it!

2007- Jan-       57 KWH per day!            $ 222.39

2008- Jan-       40 KWH per day!            $ 151.10!

What a difference! Percentage savings: 29.8%  or $ 71.29.

Our average power bill was $350 a month last year. A 12.5% savings (using the conservative side) would be $44 per month.

Outstanding! Thanks to the team at EcoQuest for including us in this new GREEN technology!

Sales Training Quotes:

Residential is probably the key to this whole thing. It's definitely the easiest.

Commercial's a great avenue and it has its place.

When you get into residential, no one is doing this. It's a gold mine.

You can actually save money and be green.

You get a qualified prospect almost every time with this phrase...

They ask: "What do you do?"

I slow down people's electric meters.

This spurs conversation. They ask, "How do you do this?"

I recycle the energy inside your home, so you do not need to purchase as much from the electric company.

They ask: "How exactly does it work?"

It absolutely works. I have a device that is installed in your electric panel, and it grabs all the energy you have already paid for but is not being used.

They ask: "What will you do when you come to my house?"

You can do this on your own with your own electrician. If I come by, I'll take a picture of your electric panel so tht when we set up your installation the electrician will know what to bring. This will keep your installation cost down. It's usually $150 to $200.

They ask: "How much might I save?"

A safe round number is 10%. Some dealers have said, "If you don't save at least 10% at the end of a year, I'll refund the difference." This kind of guarantee would have to be covered by the individual dealer. It is not necessary.

EcoPower4 Answers from Jeffrey Klein

EcoPower Express

Q & A #1

How does the EP4 actually save on electricity?

One of the three components of the EcoPower4 is a pair of “harmonic resistant capacitors.” These components “capture” waste electricity, then recycle it back to the things in the home or office space that are operating by using an electric motor, such as an air conditioner, washer or dryer, dishwasher or ceiling fan.

As this motor continues to operate using “recycled” electricity, the home is not “purchasing” and “new” electricity from the power company, which decreases the amount of kilowatt hours (kWh) of electricity used in the home, thereby decreasing the amount due on the electric bill each month.

Tell your customer to look at their electric bill each month, under the “Energy Usage” section, and compare the kWh per day figure from last year, to this year; the difference between these two numbers represents the savings being created by the EP4.

EcoPower Express

Q & A #2

What if the EP4 doesn’t work?

The EcoPower4 always works, the same way everywhere, all of the time.

I actually developed the example below, to illustrate this very point to a Condo Board member, during a Commercial EcoPower4 presentation that I did in January 2009.

Midge (not her real name), if you went out to Seattle to visit your son and daughter-in-law for Christmas, and while there your Con Air Mini electric hair dryer “died,” would you have any worry about going to the local K-Mart store to purchase an identical hair dryer, because it might not work back home, here in Delray Beach, Florida?

She answered with a “quizzical look” and said “...of course not!”  Then, she got it!

The EcoPower4 is a metal box, with three different sets of “classic technology” that have no moving parts, which has been in use, around the world, for between 60 and 100 years; but, generally in the industrial segment of the market, such as big factories, on very large motor driven machinery. These technologies are recognized and affirmed to operate as claimed by the United States Department of Energy.

Finally, there may be something up in a particular instance, where a customer is “not witnessing” a savings, which could stem from any one, or a combination, of:

  1. Not comparing kWh usage for the same month, YEAR to YEAR; this is the ONLY way to properly do it. This is as opposed to comparing last month to this month (which may work to the positive going from summer to fall, but will not work going from winter to spring).

  2. Comparing the dollar amount of the bills, instead of the kWh used.  In the case of Florida where our cost per kWh rose by 16%, plus the addition of a 4% fuel surcharge, would neutralize a 20% savings in kWh usage; but, the good news is, if your customer did not have a EcoPower4, their $300 electric bill this year would have been a $375, based on this years price per kWh multiplied by the kWh used last year!

  3. The electricity “use profile” of the home differed substantially, from last year to this year, where, for example the family was gone last year on a 2 week vacation in June 2007, but was home for the entire month in June 2008, obviously using 2 weeks more of electricity this year than last year. As in Bob Giddens’ case, he was in China for 2 weeks in March 2007, but home all month in March 2008, but, his electric bill, with the EP4 installed, was just 2.3% higher...that’s a significant savings, think about it!

EcoPower Express

Q & A #3

Are there any Federal Energy Tax Credits

or State Cash Rebates for installing the EcoPower4

that we could use as a sales incentive?

NO!

And even if they became available, I would not recommend using them as an incentive for selling the EcoPower4, for several good reasons:

  1. The EP4 has such impressive financial savings dynamics that it doesn’t need government incentives to be sold.

  2. These programs may not be renewed by the legislatures year after year.

  3. These programs may (will) run out of money before your customer gets theirs, as happened in Florida on July 1, 2008, where although the state legislature renewed the program, and even funded it, the stack of applications exhausted the funds by 5:00 pm ET. That means that everyone who had properly filed an application would now have to wait until July 1, 2009, to see if the program would be renewed and funded, and wonder how many other applications were ahead of theirs, determining whether [or not] they would receive their rebate.

In short, there is no good reason to even want such credits or rebates, as they can only create customer angst by having to wait to get them, and provide customer disgruntlement with you, the dealer, if they don’t get theirs on time...and you all know how that goes!
