I
was made aware of a very sick newborn, whose mother is my daughter’s
friend. My daughter told me the baby had been hospitalized several
times in his brief seven weeks of life. He was scheduled to come
home again from having RSV (Respiratory
Syncytial Virus), a prevalent condition and a health risk for
young children. She stated that he could only come home if the
strictest of infection control measures were implemented. Hand
sanitizer, clean environment, no smoking or other contaminants in
the
environment. The parents were told there was a strong possibility
there was mold in the home.
My daughter, being best friends and godmother, was as concerned as
the parents. She called to tell me of the situation and get input to
help them. She knew I sold Vollara FreshAir purifiers and had shared
that with them. They were told that the baby would be discharged if
they were prepared for his level of care. I said I would get a
FreshAir as soon as possible. I called Customer Service to check on
delivery time and was told 2 to 3 days. Then I called my group
leaders, Dave Donovan and Jim Dickerson, and told them of my
immediate need for a Focus. They were able to accommodate me.
I
relayed that to the family, and they were allowed to have their
precious little boy come home with them. I picked up the Focus and
went to the home to install it and train my daughter and the baby’s
mom and dad on the operation and management of the Focus. We placed
it in the room where the baby would be sleeping and put it on Away
Mode for 2 hours. I instructed them to open the drawers and closet
where they kept the baby’s things to add to the purification support
with things he would come in contact with. I reviewed the importance
of changing the setting before bringing him in for the night. I also
reinforced the importance of not letting the children touch the
Focus to accidentally change the settings.
I
called back the next day to follow up. They were ecstatic over the
quality of the air. They stated that after the 2 hours on Away Mode,
they went into the bedroom and could tell the phenomenal change in
the air. Standing in their hallway and leaning in to the room, the
difference was more than just noticeable. Later that day the
visiting nurse came by to check the baby and stated the purifier was
just what he needed. It was found that his lungs were not fully
developed, and that purifying his air is the best thing to support
his quality of health and life. They are raving about the system.
Mom and dad are looking to upgrade to a home purification system.
