Hello Bob,

You sent a house fire story and I am happy to respond to your customer's questions.

I have heard of the potential fire issue for Plug-In type "air fresheners." First of all let me differentiate these type products from the Focus. The only similarity is size --- nothing else. The plug-in air unit I have looked at uses a cheap bi-metallic heating element to heat up an oil-based liquid to create an “aroma,” which is intended to make you think the air is now cleaner. The reality is this makes the air much less healthy to breathe, but that is another story. The plastic used is not flame retardant and the scent oil is flammable.  Add this all up and you have the potential for fire.

The Focus is made from flame retardant PVC. There is no heater. The corona is formed across a non-flammable ceramic insulator. The only potential for combustion would be if someone allows the unit to become filled with lint or other flammable material (from running in a high-dust environment), but even then any resulting combustion would most likely be contained inside the flame resistant housing.

Best regards,
