Dan Gibson's Leadership Letter

 

Greetings!


We are halfway through one of the most important windows of opportunity EcoQuest has ever offered to those who would seek success in our business. If you didn't get rolling in March, you still have the remainder of April and all of May to count as a single month toward promotion.

 

EcoQuest has lowered the bar so low that nearly anyone who has the desire to grow and a willingness to put forth some renewed effort can cross over to the winner's circle.

 

In over 50 years of studying and observing what causes people to achieve and excel, I have noticed that people don't bring up the inner strength for a challenge unless they know why they should exert extra effort and have a vision for what that extra effort will bring to them.

 

Before anyone does something important or difficult they must see the result in their mind's eye and be unwilling to stop until they make their vision a reality. In other words, people fail to achieve great things because they lack vision.

 

With that in mind, I shall try to paint the vision of what you can accomplish with EcoQuest so that you can clearly see it. My desire is to paint a vision that will ignite your passion and make you unstoppable.

 

Further, I would have you catch a vision that you will share with others...so that others catch their own vision from you and willingly join you on your journey to a new life—a new life you must first envision, then plan for and work to make it a reality.

 

EcoQuest can be an excellent vehicle to take you from where you are to where you would like to be; but like any other vehicle, you must learn to use it, give it direction and move forward with it each day.


I have heard many people lie to others about success in life. They recruit by telling people our business is easy. Many times I have heard people say, "If I can do it, you can too!" I prefer to tell people the truth.

 

Success requires growth; growth requires vision, passion, planning, commitment, effort and determination. The cliché "growing pains" is well known because it speaks of a universal truth: growth typically requires sacrifice and pain...not the pain that comes from stubbing one's toe but rather the pain of accurate and objective self-analysis. It is the pain that comes from facing oneself in the mirror and admitting that I am not a victim of my circumstances but rather I am today realizing the fruit of my thinking, planning (or lack thereof), and effort.

 

I like the book Rich Dad, Poor Dad  because I have seen so many people's eyes opened by reading it. We are each living examples of the immutable law of cause and effect or, as Jesus put it, sowing and reaping. What we sow we eventually harvest. And the pain I speak of is the good pain of saying to ourselves, "I am living today the results of what I have sown." We have all heard the term "self-made millionaire," but we shy away from admitting "I am living the fruits of what I have sown. I have brought myself to where I am." No, I am not leaving God out of my equation, but I realize that He has given me much ability that I have not developed, much time that I have wasted, and much opportunity that I have failed to seize and act upon. 

 

From many years' experience as a pastor and teacher I know that some will read these words and become angry instead of convicted and encouraged. Those who have lived day by day by shifting blame for their circumstances to others, resent being told that they may have some personal responsibility for their present circumstances. The problem of blame-shifting is as old as man: Adam blamed his wife for his fall, while Eve blamed the serpent. And so much of their posterity has imitated them down to this day.

 

The first step of growth and a new future is the painful step of taking responsibility and deciding to quit shifting blame for where one is. Why? Because to change our future, we must change our today. We cannot live in tomorrow. Rather, what we do today and the direction we move in determines where we will be tomorrow. 

 

We must change what we have let our minds dwell upon if that thinking has led us to a place we don't enjoy.

 

You must quit letting Hollywood steal your future by offering you television in place of time spent becoming a more capable person. Turn off the radio music during your automotive drive time and replace that wasted time with educational and motivational CDs. Cancel your subscriptions to popular magazines and newspapers and begin reading books that will teach and inspire you toward a new and prosperous future...

 

Success in life doesn't happen, it is caused. 

 

There is a secret that happy, successful people know. But I shouldn't call it a secret because happy, successful people would like nothing more that to share what they have learned with others. The reason these principles are a secret is simply because the masses of society stew in the juices of their own thinking and get their advice from all the wrong crowd. This applies to the more important spiritual matters as well: Jesus said,

 

"... wide is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many that go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it." (Math. 7:13,14 NKJV

 

If you are with me this far, I trust that you may buy into the concept of cause and effect and are interested in changing your future by changing what you have been sowing. If so,

 

...the need of the hour is to decide to put away old ways of thinking and old habits and replace them with new ways of thinking. To change our future, we change our thoughts and allow ourselves to dare to dream big dreams. Earl Nightingale said, that the "strangest secret" is that we become what we think about. 

 

One of the first places to start your journey is to forever banish one of man's favorite justifications. That justification is found in the time-worn, self-justifying  statement, "I can't." and replace it with the empowering question, "How can I?" It is appropriate that we put a period at the end of the two words, "I can't." because when we declare that we can't do something, we put a self-justifying end to our obligation to search for solutions to our problems. On the other hand, when we ask ourselves the question, "How can I?" we turn on our God-given minds to search for ways to achieve even the most difficult tasks. Every great achievement of mankind began with that question! Most of the world lives in self-justification, but the good, man-made things we enjoy have come from men and women who asked not only "How can I?" but also saw a vision for what their thinking might bring to themselves and others.

 

When you decide to change your life for the better, you join the minority of people who have been able to bless the lives of others throughout history. Being broke makes you a burden, while being creative makes you a blessing to others who can follow you and are blessed by your willingness to be fruitful.

 

EcoQuest is the best answer to the questions and worries of millions of people. Today our economy is bad and (I think) it is headed toward even worse times in the future. None of the major candidates for the White House are willing to even discuss the root causes of our national woes. More of our jobs will leave our shores, more people will face eviction from their homes, our dollar is losing its artificial value in the world marketplace. This problem is foreboding to the masses but creates a world of opportunity for those who can offer solutions to worried people. EcoQuest is a lifeboat for people who notice that their old ship is rapidly sinking. An EcoQuest business is a trustworthy vehicle for those who want to drive themselves from where they are to a much better destination. Hundreds of business opportunities that are thriving right now, not because they are good but because so many people are motivated to get off the ship they are on and are vulnerable to all types of money-making schemes. Little do they know that they have probably found an unreliable vehicle in nearly all the opportunities that they will find. EcoQuest is a reliable vehicle because it is a real business. It offers real hope, real income and a real future. If you don't share EcoQuest with others, the chances are great that someone else will recruit them into a pseudo-business that will dash their hopes.

 

Everything in your future starts with you. That's good news! Many people think outward conditions need to change for them to prosper. But as Jim Rohn says,

 

"If you change your thinking, you change your world." If you learn to be competent as an EcoQuest Manager, you will never need to have a job again. You will be free from dependence upon corporate America and can actually become free of the need to work at all as you build a business of you own that has true residual income.

 

Now, I wrote all of the foregoing to give you this message: If you are ready to change your future, you must take advantage of the 90-day month opportunity that EcoQuest has approved from March 1 through May 31. Those of us who struggled to earn Fast Start Distributor and Manager in our day are envious of what you can do with so much less effort than we expended to earn promotion. But I must return to my original point:

 

You won't be willing to work for the offer that EcoQuest makes to you unless you know "why" you should do so. If you don't have a big "why" you won't be willing to make the sacrifice required to grow into a promotion.

 

EcoQuest's owners desire that this company should grow into a world-class company. To do that, new dealers are not what is needed; new leaders are the need of the day. All organizations grow because of the strength of their leadership, not on the numbers of their employees or dealers. The key position that EcoQuest needs to fill is the Sales Manager position. Sam Walton could only open new Wal-Mart stores as quickly as he could attract or develop leaders to manage those stores. The key to EcoQuest's growth is the development of new Managers to lead the field and provide support for our new dealers. As a result, EcoQuest has created a compensation plan for Managers that is designed to attract and keep the kind of leaders that will ensure its success. Therefore, qualified Managers enjoy extraordinary income, company-paid luxury cars, travel dollars (think travel expense account), GPS (think profit-sharing), health insurance, true residual income (think retirement) and recognition.

 

Quite frankly, a successful EcoQuest business is a strong and wide Managership. When you understand that fact, you will not be satisfied to hold a rank below Manager. In fact, you will set your sights on Coordinating Manager and above where everything becomes much more fun and lucrative.

 

All of us start with a dealer agreement and a few machines to work with, but those who press forward to become Managers and share that vision with others, achieve lifestyles that most people only dream about.

 

Debbie and I started dead broke and ready to have our lights and water shut off. We had no savings, no retirement, no credit cards or even a debit card. We started with $35 out-of-pocket expense and a financed Success Pack. It was hard for us (you're not the only one!), Debbie struggled to learn to retail. We were discouraged when our best prospects didn't buy from us or join us as dealers. It took us six months to earn Manager and 11 months to earn a Bonus Car, even though others reached those goals much faster.

 

Quite frankly, we would have never become Managers had we not made a decision that we needed to do whatever it took. Why? because we saw clearly that whatever price we paid to reach that goal would be worth all the effort.

 

As Greg Montoya says, "If earning a six-figure income was easy, everyone would do it." The difference is that with EcoQuest, the opportunity is not a carrot on a string, it is real. You can have it if you are willing. Debbie and I went from 13 years of being broke to earning about three million dollars over the last 11 years with this company. I shutter to think what we would have missed if we had not made a decision to become Managers and then learned how to operate our business.

 

When you have an EcoQuest Managership and are competent in operating it, you are free!

 

I hope I have helped you develop a new "why" and a personal vision for what life can be for you and your family if you are willing to pay the price to change some thinking, develop a "How can I?" frame of mind and commit to a new life of personal growth and accomplishment. I know you can! The question is only, "Will you?"

 

If you have made a decision to leave the crowd and take the narrow way that leads to great blessing, now is a time like never before. When Debbie and I became Managers we had to achieve 15,000 QV in three of four continuous months, plus we had to have six 1,000 QV legs in our last month of qualification. Those standards have been lowered for some time to 15,000 in three out of six months and you only have to have four 1,000 QV legs in the last month. However, we know that some of you have tried and failed to reach that level of production.

 

Therefore, the 90-Day Month Plan is designed with you in mind.

 

In order to make Manager between now and May 31 you need a total of 15,000 QV and four 500 QV legs during the entire period!

 

My friends, we had many of you personally in mind when our committee designed this plan. We want you to achieve the benefits reserved for our Managers. Think of it, 15,000 QV will count as if you had done the 45,000 the rest of us had to do! And you don't have to have four legs of 1,000 in the final month but four legs during any of the three months with only 500 volume each!

 

Friends, this is YOUR day! Please don't let this pass you by. If you didn't get started in March, you still have April and May to start on a new path to prosperity and freedom. If you try to do this all by yourself it will be hard. But if you catch the vision I have for you and share it with others, you will be able to count their efforts with yours and may help others pass the finish line with you. Start today! Make a plan, get started today doing the activities that lead to success, build momentum and be willing to pay the price today for a brighter future tomorrow. This is real. You can do it. We will help you.
