Air Purifier Placement and Adjustment
Vollara air
purification units come in zero ozone, low ozone, and
ozone-adjustable (adjustable from zero to high) models. The RCI or Radiant Catalytic Ionization technology uses a zero-ozone
process that was developed as a part of the NASA space program, and
Vollara units that utilize this technology have been given the
"Space Certified" designation by the Space
Foundation.
People often ask
about ozone. The state of California will be regulating
ozone-producing home air purifiers beginning in October, 2010, and
some Vollara models are already in full compliance. Canada has not
permitted the sale of ozone-producing home air purifiers for more
than a decade. Vollara has models for that market, as well.
The ozone question
is interesting. This discussion by chippynews.com will be helpful to
those who want to know the whole truth and not just one side.
Low ozone levels of .02 parts per
million are familiar to all of us. Ozone (O3,
a form of oxygen) is known to kill
bacteria, viruses, and molds, and it helps break down organic
odors. We find .02 ppm of ozone in
fresh, outdoor air every day because ozone is created by sunshine.
In fact, on beautiful sunny days the level may reach .05 ppm in
some of the most popular places on
earth...such as beaches, parks, and golf courses.
Ozone levels can be
pushed higher in the presence of smog or other air pollutants (or
from industrial sources) and
extreme levels are irritating to mucus linings, lungs, and eyes.
High ozone levels are one of many known triggers that bother
asthmatics.
If you have a
low ozone or ozone-adjustable unit, it should be adjusted
to the level that is comfortable for all residents of the
home or business where the unit is installed. Start on a low setting
to make sure everyone is happy.
Even with the
units that make ozone, it an area of 2,000 square feet or more, the
average O3 level will be low and
perfectly natural, but someone sitting near the machine could be
exposed to levels that are unpleasant and/or irritating. Therefore,
do not position an air purifier where it can blow directly on people
or pets. The recommended placement is up high and in a large room.
In the end, the
occupants' sensitivities will determine the proper level. If the
most sensitive person in the household likes the fresh, clean air
and does not experience coughing or irritation, the setting is
correct. If someone begins to cough or complain, turn the unit off
or to a lower setting. Move the unit to a different place or
discontinue its use.
Your Vollara air
purifier can be adjusted to its highest setting and moved close to
the problem to deal with an odor or a bacteria or mold problem, and
the positive (and quick!)
results may amaze you. Do this in unoccupied rooms only. A
shock-treatment on a high setting will resolve many bad situations,
including cigarette odors, skunk odors, construction odors, mold
odors, food smells, pet odors, locker room odors, etc. You be the
judge. We believe you will love this versatile and effective home
appliance.
